-- verifyble. when this bill was being talked about again, back in 2009, shortly after mr. obama became our 44th president, it was estimated that there was something like 47 million people in this country, mr. speaker, who through no fault of their own except couldn't afford it didn't have health insurance. well, when you really go through those numbers and i have a book with me that i'm going to reference and i want to give proper attribution, the name of the book is "the top 10 myths of american health care: a citizen's guide." maybe it could be a patient's guide. and this is written by sali pipes -- sally pipes. and she talks about in this book, she talks about that 47 million. something like 15 million of hose 47 million make more than $50,000 a year. indeed, some make more than $75,000 a year, mr. speaker. and they've just decided that they don't want health insurance, that they will pay as they go. and there's nothing wrong with that. i don't advise it. i think everybody should at least have catastrophic coverage. but be that as it may, this is america. we have to insist on enjoying our

the website is going really well. i know the new york times and "washington post" talked about that a lot. if you go to kentucky, what you hear is that mitch mcconnell is still loud and proud saying we should repeal obama care. and the democratic candidate there running and her name is allison grimes. so far even though kentucky has a good website, she is still very weary of this law. her view is still obama care not going to help you win in kentucky. on the other hand in florida, you have charlie crist, now a democrat, running for governor there. he made one of his big issues the medicate expansion which is popular. florida has not allowed the medicaid expansion. and he thinks it's a winning issue with the democrats in florida. >> the website is working better but still underlying issues only just beginning to make head way like identity verification and enkolment data which is leaving some insurers and states like connecticut really uncomfortable and now looking for ways around the federal system, ways to enroll customers directly. this is how the new york times put it. some insurers ha

obama doesn't have to face the voters anymore. so a lot of this talk about where he stands in the polls is only relevant if it actually leads to defections among democrats. the republicans already oppose him. if his low poll numbers cause democrats to head for the hills, that's when we should start saying it's really significant. so far, that hasn't happened. so the consequences of his low poll numbers are not yet serious. that doesn't mean they might not get serious in the new year if they can't get their act together on the website. if they do get their act together and these patches work, we don't know the antibiotics answer to that question yet, despite the cheerleading from the white house. if it does get better at the beginning part of the new year, he has every opportunity to have a much more successful 2014. and i think what we're starting to see now on this question of the minimum wage, which affects a lot more than kids, the assumption was it used to just be for teenagers. now it's affecting like 40% of minimum wage workers who are over 25 years old. this means that there are

in the world is going them? to they know who they're talking about? the new york times best selling author. it knows all and tells all right here next. ♪ ♪ lou: a lot going on. the obama administration moving closer to finalizing a controversial rule that would gi green energy company's 30- year permits to kill bald and golden eagles in the country without penalty. hundreds of thousands of birds are not killed every year after flying into large wind turbine blades and other obstaes. the industry claims only 2 percent of the eagles are killed by those wind turbines. a federal study recently found wind farms killed at least 85 gold nine bald eagles from 1997 until 2012. why am i telling you about this? because i care about this a lot. this angers me to think about what we're doing in this country. the white house is now reportedly completing a review of the rule. final details are not known. the rule could still be tweaked, as they put it, but significant changeare rare at this stage in the process. so call your congressman. call your senator, call the president. senator elizabeth warren
